Thank you all for being part of our open music compo and see you next time :)

Welcome to the 25th scenecompo!
We are finally back with another compo. Sorry that the 1 hour compo didn't happen yet - but we still have to figure out some minor details for that one.
Now, we have July already and it is time for the "changeling compo"!
Your task is to pick a scene-tune and remix that tune in a different genre. That's right: you pick the tune and you remix it, but in a different genre.
So let's be a bit more specific shall we:
"A music genre is a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions"
-random guy on wikipedia

- Deadline is 25.08.2013 23:59:00 (that's a sunday)
- write a remix of a scene tune and change the genre - think twice if you plan to remix a chiptune with a c64
- timelimit: 10 minutes
- multiple entries per user
- upload the track before the deadline here on this site
- don't publish your track until voting is over elsewhere
- upload your tune as flac(!)

VOTING IS ON!

Voting will run until saturday 31. August 2013 23:59:59 - so place your votes now.

We will update this page with the original song names soon.

Have to rank 5! It's my favourite song of all time:) However I would rather see it in different style, more similar to the original. Do it and you will earn immortality, sir!

House of the Rising Sun? or just that one song that sounds kinda like it but isn't? No wait ... the other part doesn't match. Polkaish, certainly. Oh wait! The end gives it away. Choose Zero Polys and Shaders! Would be 3ish but given it was quite different from the original and still recognizably so ... gotta give props to that.

The accordion pattern rocks, overall song feels a little bland, but the idea is good, using humppa as style for this tune, it fits very well.

Crafty Andy Jayne mp3 ogg flac
Artist Comment: An 'Electro Ska' take on the classic demo, lft - Craft.
Artist Production Notes: FL Studio as DAW, blend of Ska samples and some classic electro synths. Started working on this a few hours before the deadline and just about scraped something together in time.

Wow. I don't know what the original was, but this is very nice. The parts with less bass and but still the trumpet remind me kind of Streetlight Manifest / Ska. I don't know if that was the intention, but please don't take that comparison as a bad thing as I think it works in its favor (in my case)!
5
by Mystra
Awesome remix of an awesome tune!
4

ery cool instrumental setup. In some parts it lacks a bit of "Inspiration" (bit too repetitive). but still a solid 4 for me with a light tendency towards 5 :) (5 stars on necta)

Not that bad remix, actually. The drums are mixed a bit too loud. I personally dislike the music style and the (almost unhandled) chaos that's going on through whole tune.

Elrinth, this remix is not actually that bad. But, seriously, next time try to use some other lead sample. I think I've heard NES-leads too often in your tunes, it's not funny anymore. ;-) The piano part especially is superb! You don't need Nintendo for good tunes.

not that happy with the guitar ;) The original is an epic track, but somewhat the remix lacks a bit of specialty for me. (3 stars on necta)

Very well-executed, but still gives me the feeling of the same genre as the original.

I'll write my first thoughts here: "Cool another Hawkeye remix. CRAP! Not another generic heavy remix of Hawkeye..." Minus points for not creating unique stuff.

My own song, yeah the mixing is strange... I tried to stay true to the original and make a 70s epic rocksong from it. I have to say it was fun to make this, one of my favourite SIDs of all time :)

Better than original as it has this horrible drumbeat. But those were the good news :D Drums are offsync and it's just not that interesting, sorry

I can hear something similar to my style here. Maybe it's just the samples. Dunno, anyways, if I'd get to choose. I'd mix the voices differently. The lead should stand up and the background (especially the bass & bassdrum) should be more in the background. Now it sounds too chaotic.
2
by AMcBain
Repetitive. Wasn't too fond of the loud bit that started at the beginning and went through to the entire song. Sorry man. No idea what the original tune was.
2
by Serpent
Easy to recognize, which is kind of plus in this compo. Wrong notes in it, dunno if intentional or not, but i would have liked the original notes just with new music style. Style is changed, as was supposed to. Hmm.. Not really hitting the right buttons this time, sorry
2
by Buzzer
Familiar tune for me, chords & melody goes little bit too strange for my taste
2
by malodorous101
The melody is almost inaudible for most of the track, not sure if this is just my setup but I only recognised the tune from the arps which are almost the same as the original

Original (if this really is Odyssey - Part 5) also has that doskpop part at the end, so the remix is not that original. Not bad doskpopping at all, too bad with that one offtune lead sound, it's quite horrible to listen.. Also, it's very hard to recognize which tune this actually is.
